#2 Bury a time capsule
I'm so immature... I just giggled because the title of this post is "#2."
Anyway, #2 on my bucket list is to bury a time capsule. Amazingly today I "unearthed" one that I had buried on my 18th birthday AKA January of 2006. It was meant to be opened in 2009 but somehow got forgotten about in a large box of scrapbook stuff. That is until today when I went looking for more photos of J.LOW. It was amazing to open this! It's contents included really gaudy jewelry (some even hand made by me), all of my old GSUSA membership cards, foreign money, silly photo booth pictures from my youth, old political stickers and buttons, some personal writings, my baby teeth (the fact that I kept these is probably a sign of a possible career as an axe murderer or some other telling of psychological distress... I am a bit concerned), a few random small toys that look Polly Pocket-Esq, a reference letter, and explicit instructions that no one but me is to open this until the year 2009.
Not only was it really cool to find this forgotten treasure box, but it was also great to see that I put in nothing negative. My teen years were full of dark, woe-is-me writings and drawings, but none of them managed to make it into the time capsule. Matter of fact, there is a pretty inspirational letter to myself that simply asks me to reflect on the growth I have done since the capsule's "burial" and to purge myself of all regrets. Beautiful.
Lastly, I found a list of "Things I want to do before I die." It looks like my "official bucket list" that I am working off of now was not my original. For the most part the original is similar, but here are a few things that differ and thus are being added to the draft I have now:
1. Sea Kayaking
2. Hot air balloon ride
3. Backpack across Europe
4. Visit:
Ireland- St. Patrick's Cathedral and the Blarney Stone
Australia: Sydney and the Outback
Egypt: Pyramids
South Africa (this was probably included because at the time I had a crush on someone from South Africa)
Belize (I am aiming to go there in May, 2012)
Revisit Our Cabana in Mexico
Chad
Turkey
Chile
These places will all help me with number 55- visit 100 countries.
In conclusion, I am marking #2 off of my bucket list. Time capsule buried and found!
-- Though I may bury another at a later date.
Here are a few photos of the contents:
A ring my mother gave me... it holds a secret message.
I think I volunteered once for the non-profit "Food not Bombs" but I do love their message.
I used to be murderous towards televisions.
A locket containing a picture of my mother and brother. It is sitting on top of a picture of me sitting on an ice-sculpted chair.
An over view of the contents.
The secret message (when the magnet ring is opened) says, "I love you."
